    Head options for m20

Im new to bmws as you can see... but i have to ask, what heads can fit on my m20 2.7? Are there and dohc options?

    Thanks!

There aren't any dohc heads for an M20 engine. It is possible to convert an M20B27 into a "budget stroker" by using the head, intake, injectors, AFM, CPS, engine harness, and DME from an M20B25. The result will make more power and have a wider rpm band than a stock M20B27, but less power than that of stock M20B25.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Just bear in mind that if you do the "i" head on the "e" engine that due to the lower compression ratio it makes this motor extremely reliable with a mild boost forced induction setup of around 8-10 lbs. I plan on going this route actually... There's ways to get the compression ratio back up to stock or more with different crankshafts or custom pistons and rods if you don't want the snailshell or blower. There are dedicated threads on this very subject in the FAQ, engine swap and M20 sections of the site. Read up and see what you want to do...

If you have an `88 325e, you have the Super-ETA motor, and can do this:

If you have and earlier model, you'd need other additional parts, and would still have a low compression engine.

LOL. Jim has forgotten more about e30s than you'll ever know.

Has anybody ever seen one of those RD heads for sale? Or hell, ever seen one on a car? I feel like this is possibly the rarest e30 part.

There were only a few (like 3 or 5) of those RD heads made... and while they are 24v, I'm 95% sure they were still SOHC

No point in even bringing up that head since it basically doesnt exist.

wow, you are a douche. That is bullshit, they only made 2 24v heads and scrapped both of them along with the casting. It would cost too much to make for them to even consider going into production.

They only made prototypes, there was no production run.

They made JUST TWO 24v m20 heads, but they cost a ridiculous amount of money for them to make, and then a butt ton more to make them work. You had to convert from timing belt to timing chain, get new pistons because of the different valve reliefs and dome shape, and new engine management. There was no market for them at that high a price so they scrapped the two heads they made and the casting for them.
