    What digger says.

I have ordered a Dbilas 276 for my 2.8, at 9.8 comp. Will let you know how it goes when I finally get it installed.

What are you doing for tuning. IMO a good stroker result is aided by some ignition timing adjustments, which is fixed on the motronic.
Pulling my hair out with all these friggin BMW's:

1984 318i Coupe 2.5 S14 going in the car below.
1988 M3 Lachssilber: I'm the second owner, currently recommissioning.

My standard street car rec would be the 284/272

it will still idle fine but has more potential than the 272. the 272 is pretty mild. if your car runs rough with a 272, there are other issues at hand.

Threadjack: I know that the larger cams require different pistons when the lift gets too high. Is the 284 going to require different pistons for valve clearance? What about cam timing adjustability? I know I will need to learn how to measure these things myself, but I was hoping to build up a top-end and run it with the stock bottom end until I get the rest of the bottom end finished up.

you will *always* want to measure piston/valve clearance at TDC if you've upgraded the cam. with the 284, specifically the intake valve, it's going to be close. you don't need new pistons though, you just need to cut the valve pockets a little deeper (they shouldn't need much more). minimum clearance is 1.5mm (and this really is the minimum).

alternatively, you could run a thicker HG, but this will of course drop your CR.
