    I am curious why the repaired vacuum leak would have fixed the issue when during the event the tach died? As Jlevie has said the tach dying indicates loss of power to ECU. Why would the valve cover leak affect power to the ECU?

      Honestly, I have no clue. That was all I repaired that day. I never even took the spark plug wires off the spark plugs.

      Your guess is as good as mine. The only plausible guess I have is that the spark plug wires were arcing, and that when I replaced the gasket they somehow got better insulated against the valve cover when I replaced it. Which still makes no sense, but it's all I have really.
