I'm gonna use stock rocker arms with my build...but I'm building a m10. For peace of mind though, nothing beats upgraded/overkill parts! Maybe someone who has built an m20 like yours can chime in.

This has been covered at length before, I think if you searched you'd find a lot of information regarding HD rockers.

For one to tell you if you need them or not? Frankly you'll have people that will tell you no and others that will tell you yes. Search for the most information you can find, then make the decision.

On another note why are you running uprated springs with a 272?

      Hey_You - a Little M10 rocker information was just discussed here .... http://www.bmw2002faq.com/component/...opic/t,366046/

Shant and Mr325 recommended HD IE Rocker Arms when they built my great SuperETA/325i 2.7i and I agreed. Even if this car NEVER sees the Track I think it's a smart investment. As soon as I get the funds to have RyanGMW do the GC Coilover install it WILL hit the track, and I'll not have to worry about stressing the ValveTrain. I think it's a good idea, as well as upgraded valve springs.

            i say yes. why not!?
while your in there do it once and do it right.the sight even says they are more heavy duty in the specific area where M20 rockers snap.

I look at it this way. stock rocker arms are built for stock cam and springs. pretty much

Im getting HD ones cause i drift which involves constant higher RPM's and temps. Ive also been looking at the VAC springs. they cost a bit more but peace of mind goes a long way. And id rather not be stranded in some lot cause somethin broke at 2am
And its only a single cam. its a fairly inexpensive motor to work with. GO FOR IT
m20 is plenty. im simply a drifter.

I'm running the IE HD rockers in my boosted 2.7 M20. To me it was worth the investment, I'd rather not pull the cylinder head to replace a broken rocker down the road!

You can definitely use stock springs with a 272 cam though.

Only if you rev over stock.

There's no point in HD rockers on a car that only goes to 6200.
We race them to 6800, and that seems to be about the limit for reliability.
                  At 7200, it's worth it.

But springs are actually the really crucial element to high revs...

                  BUT.
No, they won't hurt, the Ireland ones are hardly any more expensive, and they're fine units.

now, sometimes I just mess with people. It's more entertaining that way. george graves
