Pretty much what the title says. Anyone replace tty head or rod bolts with grade 8 or higher metric bolts??
Can tty bolts be replaced with non-tty

I dont see spending 8$ a bolt on tty if i can use a standard bolt. Stretching a bolt with a dial gauge doesnt seem as consistant as torquing it. Maybe its just my background in engine building.Comment

Are you bloody well out of your mind? These are bolts that hold fucking 180PSI together under an explosion, you better fucking hope to pay $8 a bolt.Originally posted by TSI♫ Rust flecks are falling on my head...♫OEM+Comment

Well then ill spend 40 dollars a rod and stud them... this is just stupid. Im not gonna spend 8$ a bolt just to throw them away in 12 months when the motor comes back apart.Comment

I am boosted and it isnt a street car. I tear the motor down at the end off the season to look things over and replace gaskets and bearings if need be. Sounds like studs are going to be worth it in the long run...Comment

gasket failure caused by inferior OEM head-bolt stretch.
This is the #1 cause of premature head gasket failure, especially on boosted or high output engines. Right from arp's site!
Vac sells arp rod bolts for 16$ ea.... that pays for its self after one rebuild...Comment
