External fuel pump delete

2 yes. Because the feed hose from the LP pump can't handle 50 psi. You need to run
HP fuel line from the in- tank pump to the car's hard lines. It's about 4 feet.
How? You get to figure that out. Anything from HP rubber OEM hose to steel hardline
to AN stuff.

I see now that the pump carrier only has to be modified slightly to fit the pickup filter/sock in the tank.
Now.
1)Does the return line have to be modified?
2)I've heard vague informatin on running new lines to the tank? Why and how?Leave a comment:

Neither of those links answer any questions. How about instead of being an idiot you do some searching.
This question has been asked before, and answered the same way.

Unless your pump is making noise you are fine.
Ok, here's what I need to know. Why do I need to run new lines?Get yourself a tre340 fuel pump, throw away the external and run new fuel lines. I had issues with an old volvo cutting out in turns/ not starting on hot days. Did a conversion and it fixed all my problems. If youre interested i have a OEM in tank high pressure pump you could use. pm meLeave a comment:

Im all for removing hardware. 1 in tank pump is far better than an in tank feeder pump and a high pressure external.

Ok well a fuel pump stamped "walbro" is not ebay crap.
Even parts store replacement for these cars are expensive.
A long crank is the least of my worries. A 20 year old fuel pump with unknown mileage is something to be concerned about.Leave a comment:

on the older style (2 pump cars) the in tank is only a lifter and the pressure comes from the external pump. neither cause long cranking issue. if your pumps are dying you loose power at high rpm or under load.
as for your #2. that last setup has worked in your car for over 20 years. thats gonna be longer than any "mod" you are planning to do.
#3 all i have to say. friends dont let friends buy ebay crap mods. R3v hates 99% of ebay crap.
Paging Jim he has the best list of things to check first.
most likely the CPS is dying. only when the DME sees that the engine is turning do the fuel pumps turn on.Leave a comment:

1. I'm getting some long cranking, so I think the in-tank supply pump is going out. So it would need to be replaced either way.
2. Less components = less points of failure
3. The walbro is cheaper than factory replacements.
I thought this was a more common modification? Nobody has some advice?Leave a comment:

my question is why?
seems like a whole lot of work and hassle for no real benefit.Leave a comment:

External fuel pump delete
87 325 (e) 4/87 build.
I have been searching for some info on fitting a single Walbro pump in place of the dual internal/external setup.
From my understanding I need:
- In-tank pump
- Metal fitting to delete the external pump
Two questions:
- Which pump will fit the fuel pump carrier, and do I need to modify it to physically fit?
- Which pump has a good enough flow rate.
Will this one work?
