    how to rotate cam w head off

    I got a spare 885 i want to practice adjusing the valves, any ideas?

        you see, there's a torx "bolt" that holds the cam gear on. You "turn" that "bolt" to make the cam turn over. Dont do it on a flat surface if you plan on using the head in the future as you risk damaging the valves.

            I used an impact gun on the torx tightening to quickly rotate the head assembly off the car.

              well, that probably won't do the cam bearings any favors without oil... nor the cam or rockers... jus' sayin'.

                never put a head back together without assembly lube or at least oil. i've been able to turn all my 885/AMC heads by hand and cam gear and im no big guy.

                  Use a strap wrench on the cam sprocket.
