Why doesn't it hold idle rev?

I just did a timing belt and water pump and replaced my battery. Car starts idles for a min then dies. Just wondering could it be because my intake boot has holes in it and falling apart?

duct tape up all of that boot and see it that fixes it. bad enough air leaks will cause a stall.

Okay cool. I think I'll just order a new boot. I need to make sure I pass smog.

        Yes

Duct tape holds the world together, but it shouldn't hold you intake boot together.

If you REALLY want to rule out all vacuum leaks perform a smoke test on the entire system.

Let's see how a new boot goes. Thanks for the heads up!

Just did the same thing on my car, and now it idles liked its cammed. And I just replaced my intake boot. Anything besides vacum cause these cars to idle weird?

There are possibilities other than intake leaks, but until a smoke test proves that there aren't any, assume that to be the cause.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

I think the duct tape idea was a quick fix to see if a new boot was needed...duuh

make sure all ur sensors are hooked up to the right connectors, and take some either and start searching for intake leaks, my buddies e30 had the same issue, it was a bad throttle positioning sensor, maybe u got that connector crossed with another?????

Verify crankshaft position sensor is there and plugged in and not loose.

If your boot has holes in it, then you are getting un-metered air into your system. That's a recipe for a bad running motor.
