If i can get 29mpg cruising in an e39 then i think the same engine in an e30 should yield better #s

My stock eta made 98whp/150wtq. Swapped the 885 top end and Motronic 1.3 and it made 134/145 with a stock head gasket and unshaven head. Need to bring it back to the dyno and see what it's at now with .015" off the head and a .020" thinner gasket.

That's what 40% power increase and only lose 5wtq? Best bang for the buck ($350 in JY parts and gaskets).

once you get rid of the 200 head it ceases to be an "ETA"

Looks like this guy gets 31 in his 318is with an M52. There's also this thread but none of them are particularly impressive. Most of those are M50's.

This is pretty simple - if you want to keep the eta motor - chip it and enjoy. if you want a setup that isn't designed around economy, ditch the eta setup and do an S54 swap. Fuck it, Put in a man's motor. Do an N63 swap.

ja1991, i wanna say mine was built in september of 87. I'm assuming that's a later model? u3b3rg33k, I agree with you, I'm just not a huge fan of the vanos motors. I'd be too scared for it to mess and me have no clue how in the hell to rebuild it, haha

Nice. If you don't mind me asking, how did that effect your gas mileage?

Well I just found out that my buddy is parting out his e34 with a m20. So he's going to sell me everything I need to do the swap for a really cheap price. He says around 200. I just have to figure out everything I need exactly. And to correct myself on a previous post my car was made in february of 87 so looks like I need a lot more stuff.
