I have a 1986 325es and it came with the 2.7 eta as I'm sure all of you know. However to make a long story short i spun a bearing and i got my hands on a 2.5 i motor out of a 91 325i which i think is motronic 1.1? I believe? Anyway I tore apart the motor and am going to (for the first time ever in 3 motor swaps ive been apart of) redo the bottom end. Any suggestions? And by redo I mean rod and main bearings, front and rear main seals, piston rings etc. Nothing crazy just want it to run. No stroker however may be in the future. But the main reason im posting this is to get any information on an E to I swap I've looked at strictlyeta.com, I've been on r3v looking and can't seem to find anything other than stroker build threads. I've heard that there are some wires and connecters to switch over. Which ones, i have no idea. Also I wanted to use my overflow from the eta, (i think i have better luck burping the cooling system with that system.) Are there any problems i should be aware of? I know the water pump is different and a coolant hose that runs from the rear of the block but any other information is greatly appreciated. One last thing anyone have a link to a diagram or a labeled picture of the I harness so i can label everything before assembly please and thank you for your time.

Search for 'C101'- that has the electronic details you need, assuming you got the ECU and motor harness. Which you want. There's a very good post with wires broken out
by year. My addition is to remind you to check to make sure pin 20 doesn't have a
greeen wire on the body side connecting to a red wire on the engine side...
Otherwise, get an early i radiator and I think you're done. The early i used the same right-
side reservoir and schtuff...
Don't neglect to hone the bores when re- ringing....
tnow, sometimes I just mess with people. It's more entertaining that way. george graves

I have the ecu and wiring harness do i still need to worry about "make sure pin 20 doesn't have a greeen wire on the body side connecting to a red wire on the engine side"even if the ecu motor and harness ALL came from the same car?
and when you say early i radiator, like 88 - 89 or what years in particular?
and most definitely with the honeing
Thank you

My 86 eta had the C101 connector already therefore very little had to be done in the way of wiring other than a few splices for early style connectors on sensors. Also, pretty sure that a 91 325i is motronic 1.3.
I'm not quite done with my swap over, but I kept the block from my 325es and replaced everything else with parts from a friend's 91 325is. Head, ecu, engine harness, cps, toothed crank pulley, spark plug wires, all intake/throttle components, thermostat housing, injector harness, fpr, injectors, exhaust, etc.
1986 is one of those weirdo transitional years for e30s, so let's hope you already have the C101 connector.

C101 is the connector between the engine harness and the car's wiring, located next to the fuse box. All E30's have a C101 with early production having a square connector and late production having a round connector. The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

also check out my E to I wiring thread in this forum, a fellow member just gave me some very helpful info to the whole wiring aspect, because we are literally doing the exact same engine swap.M30 is God's motor.....but Jesus drives an M60'd car -slammin.e28
