is my cluster wrong or is my car chipped?

untill today my rpm gauge has never worked since my swap last year, the rev limit on car is at 7000 rpm! i thought stock its like 6500 rpm or something like that. i opened my ecu but i didnt see anything aftermarket, or at least i couldnt tell. could it be because i have a 318 cluster instead of a 325i cluster, or do i have some type of nameless chip in my ecu?

A cluster (or coding plug) from a four cylinder car in a six cylinder car will result in the tach reading high by a factor of 3/2.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

You can't use a 318i cluster in a 6 cylinder car unless you want the tach to read high. If you have a coding chip cluster, you can just swap the coding plug from a 6 cylinder car.

I have a 6 cylinder coding chip if you need it. PM if so.

as stated its the fact that its a 318 cluster, get the correct cluster or coding chip, although if you have a m42 cluster with an m20 it will wrap the tach down to the mpg guage which looks nasty but its just because its counting for a 4cyl not a 6cyl its not actualy reving that high.
