IJ Crank Scraper - Oil Leaks anyone?

I have a IJ crank scraper on my m20. I put an oil pan gasket on both sides of the scraper. It has been about 2,000 miles and appears to be leaking oil at the pan.

Has only installed an IJ scraper? If so, what method did you use and does it leak at all?

Did you use a thin smear of any dirko/hondabon type sealant? Progressive bolt tightening?

Used a thin smear of dirko on both sides of each gasket with the IE piece, been working great for years. I really don't think it has anything to do with the scraper brand.

      I did not.

I wasn't thinking it had anything to do with the brand, just indicating what I have. I did think about using rtv or similar, but did not do it.

When I installed mine, I was unsure if I needed two gaskets or not. Out of all the threads I read, the consensus was to use RTV or similar to hold and seal the Crank scraper to the block then install the gasket and oil pan also with a small amount of RTV. So basically use only one gasket. Mines been on for ~2 years without any leaks.

Certainly more than one way to skin a cat. I don't see why either method wouldn't work.

We have installed them and always use the small amount of "The Right Stuff" which is elstomeric (better then RTV).

Have you tried retightening it? I've always found, with the double gasket method, that
they need a gentle retighten after a season or so.

I did retighten after about a month of daily driving. Checked them again at the 3 month mark and they felt plenty tight. I'm afraid of adding more torque and busting the oil pan.

I've installed a scraper with two gaskets and had leaks. Now I install the scraper with gray silicone (that gets hard) between the scraper and the block and blue silicone (that doesn't get hard) between the pan and the scraper. If the pan has to come off, the blue will let go without disturbing the seal between the scraper and the block.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Did you use a cork gasket? The biggest problem with the cork gasket is the more you tighten it the more it displaces causing the leak to get worse. If your going to use the double gasket method go with the paper gasket over the cork and lightly coat each side with high tack. The paper gasket can be had through rm european and iirc is made by mtc. Other wise plenty of people have hade good results with rtv. I just dislike the idea of rtv squeezing out into the inside of the oil pan.

Hmm, funny. I wonder what you did that made yours leak. One of the pan/scraper/double gasket setups I've been around is going on 3 years with no such issue.

EDIT: Jonathan has a good point. Forgot to mention paper MTC gaskets were used.

I am also running the IJ scraper.

I used the thin cork gasket between the block and scraper as you want the scraper as close to the block/crank as possible. I then used the paper mtc gasket between the pan and scraper.

Its been about 4 years now and it does seep but nothing to make any puddles, it was leak free for the first 3 years.

Be careful with hardening silicone. I had one that was so clued to the block we had to bend and eventually destroy the scraper when removing it.

I would also recommend a oil pan baffle if your going into the oil pan.

I like "The Right Stuff" and use a razor to cut away the parts to be removed. It's an Elastomeric product.

Good feedback, thanks everyone! I'm going to go with only silicone between the block and scraper then a paper gasket between scraper and pan. Both current gaskets are paper.

However, I just blew my head gasket, so first things first.
