    Shave my head

Redoing the headgasket, How much do I need to get shaved off when the machine shop is resurfacing my head?

As much as it takes to get it flat again. It also depends on if it has been machined in the past. There is a limit after which you can't take anymore material off.

There are 2 dimples on the face of the head that are actually depth gauges so as long as they haven't been milled off, it's fine.

I have noticed with the last two heads that it is under 4 thousands. Just had mine done(picked up today) removed 2ths. It had 108k on it though. I am sure with higher miles it might need more. Seen a few with 10ths stamped(246k on it).

I had my head machined and all the studs tapped to clean them up, and had it hot tanked (well the aluminium safe hot tanking thing) for $55 with tax

Why do you want to shave it to the limit? If it ever needs to come off again you won't be able to have it decked and will need to find another head. Just have it decked normally to get it flat.

I was just looking so that I knew what it was, I didn't plan on having it decked to the max. I didn't want to take it to the shop without any knowledge.

did you take the belt off already? It's much easier when you can hold the crank bolt and break the cam loose. Obviously replace the belt after, but you're doing that anyway....;)
