So i finish putting my cooling system back together and started the car up and i opened the oil cap and saw that the head was dry.... sooo im stumped at the moment any ideas?

If the head was dry and not getting oil trust me you will know and you will know quickly. Rev it up with the cap off and take another look.Comment

If the oil pressure light is on, check your oil pump. Don't run it any more until you do.

did you take the head apart> ?? improper installation/orientation of the rocker arm shafts would restrict and/or prevent oil flowing to the head.

No i had to replace the oil pan. and replaced oil pump with a used one. So im guessing the used pump went to the SHITTER.... its a bummer
:-?. Now i have to take oil pan off again and get a brandnew pump so it doesnt happen again... pelican parts is my E30's fav -_____-

I had a problem where the dude who rebuilt my head never out the rocker shaft retaining clip back In.
The rocker shafts spun and cut off oil flow to the head. Went to the JY picked up a new clip and was ready to go.

It isn't a big deal to prime the oiling system. You remove the cover from the boss on the left side of the engine where an old-type distributor would mount. Then pick out the oil pump drive gear. A 6mm socket will fit the oil pump drive shaft and a long extension and a drill can then be used to drive the oil pump. Using a 3/8" drill I can typically get about 30psi on an engine I've rebuilt.The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
