Pull the driveshaft from the same car your pulling the trans from.
Well, I bought a trans that was already pulled from a car. And I'm just trying to figure out which one I need.

If you're using a 325i transmission it has the small guibo.

Get a driveshaft from any manual 325i/is/ic or from and manual 325e with the small guibo.

Just install the correct center support bearing for your vehicle year.

Do yourself a favor and buy Febi for the guibo and CSB. Don't cheap out!

        Once again, thanks.
Okay, and I'm assuming I need to get the one from a sedan as well, seeing as that's what this is all going in to.

The only reason I thought they were is because realoem has the eta five speed driveshaft is 1483mm and the i shaft is 1489. But I'm assuming the difference is made up by guibo?

I have an "I" driveshaft and Guibo on my eta. Never had a problem in 2 years

So, I finally got around to tearing in to the head. I know, I took for freakin' ever.
Anyway, it looks like the head I got has been disassembled before, the intake valves are all numbered and fairly clean. I'm going to go ahead and grind the valves and seats and lap them and all that junk.
Now for the bad part, I pulled the cam, and it's pretty scored up in the bearings. So it looks like I'm getting a new cam. I already emailed the guys at Bimmer Heads, and I also figured I might as well ask you here too. The bearings in the head don't feel too scored, but I was thinking that maybe I could get them bored out and have some bushings with a grove pressed in to the head. Or should I just get a new head?

Mr 325, you seem pretty knowledgeable on this topic, i have been reading a bunch but a lot seems to be diluted with hearsay and such so maybe you can help me. you only need an I balancer (toothed) and the CPS (plus mount) when using an I trans? but if im using my 86 ETA block and trans i can continue to use the smooth balancer? and the CPS thats set into the bell housing? (like said in post #7) also is there any specific differences in intake boots? it appears there are a few different part numbers for them, i know theres a difference in I and E and but as for major differences in early I and late I boots? thanks for any help, like i said i would find some information saying one way works and find counter information a page later so its getting a bit frustrating.

no, im still running my E 5-speed and i needed the toothed balancer and CPS.

both cps's in the bell housing are now no longer needed as the I wiring harness has no connectors for them. just remove them and make plates to keep dirt/ rocks out.

differences in the I boots is mainly dependent on what style ICV you are running. (T-shape or L-shape) best to try and get the TB with the correct boot and corresponding ICV/ as well the vacuum lines. i dont see a real advantage over which style, but the L-shaped style has a simpler/ better appealing design/ hose setup imo

                      hope this helps.

im running a 87 E bottom end with a 87 I head with 87 I harness. previously had an 84 e bottom end with the same upper end setup. both worked the same.
