    what is faster?

A stock m20b25, or a 2.7i? I read a few old threads about how the 2.7 makes more torq but the 2.5 makes more HP...

So I have a m20 b25 motor but the block needs to be resurfaced, and I can pick up a eta block for cheap so I was wondering what's faster because both are in reach for me.

Depending on the machining costs you're looking at, the eta route may be cheaper. Maybe.

If you're looking for "faster" per dollar, you may want to look into other motor swaps.

the drive makes the car faster

if you do the full eta bottom and I top then you really will want to boost the engine.

but at that price you can swap in an s52 and get NA power
      Much wow

The blocks are the same, the crank, rods, and pistons are different.

A stock i will eat a stock e's lunch, it has 40 more horsepower.

yea i understand all of that. but what i was wondering was a stock i engine vs a i head on a e bottom end, which would be faster.

          no boost or s50

My buddy Myster-e built a 2.7i using a stock Eta bottom end with one of our 885 heads. It of course had all i electronics and top end parts along with a 3.73 LSD. That setup would have handed a stock M20B25 its ass.

A lot of people on the internet talk down this setup but have never actually done it.

Don't the mr-e heads come with a cam though?

And wouldn't the 2.7i be really low compression? With out a turbo obviously

Id say my car feels faster than a stock b25.

                          ETA 2.7L block
                          Decked 885 head
                          Adjusted AFM
                          alpina b3 rep chip
                          3.73lsd

                          full motronic 1.3 conversion.

3rd gear chirp on bottle caps with newish 195/60/14 tires

And yes big heavy 86 dualmass flywheel and bad rings for cyl 6.

Torque makes a big difference. My car is a stock eta bottom end with an 885 head. 19# injectors, 3.5bar FPR & Mark D Chip and 3.73 LSD. Im confident I would beat a 325i with similar mods. Of course, I also weigh a lot less than most E30s. I even kept up with my buddies S50 car on a pull to a 100mph

Super ETA bottom end+885 head+new double valve springs, rockers and cam (284/272)=the east way to go for more than stock b25 and not lowered compression. Just my .

But as stated above a 24v swap is cheaper and easier for more gains but having a nice M20 is cool (and sounds tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiits )

Also with a 3.73LSD it wakes a huuuuuuuge difference over the 2.93 i used to have. A 327i with out the 3.72 that isnt boosted is a injustice
