    2.7i - Shrick 288 Cam and springs

I'm curious how a 2.7i in stock form (Eta block and pistons, 885 head, with Motronic 1.3) would take to a Shrick 288 Camshaft and Valvesprings. This engine is going into my drift/track car, comfort, and driveability in the city isn't really a concern of mine. Will the stock FI and ECU be fine untill I can afford Megasquirt or WAR chip?

I'm also considering the 284 but I want the money to be well spent. ;)

I'd go with something smaller than a 288 for sure.

your compression is way too low for that cam. even a 284/272 is probably too much. Honestly, I think the best cam for that setup would be a stock M20B25 one.

with a 288 my guess is your power band will last for about 500rpm and not be very impressive in magnitude either. you want something like 11:1 for the 288 and you've got about 8:1.

We've done an engine like the OP's with one of our heads and 274 cam.

Power was awesome and it was still very torquey.

            Yes.

The rule of thumb is more cam needs more compression.

Your 2.7i setup has less compression so big cam is no bueno.

Hypothetically, if he ran SETA pistons (which I believe raise compression, or rather lower it less), would a 272/288 be more beneficial?

no. 8.5:1 isn't much of an improvement.

                  Thanks for the input guys!

Looks like i'm going to choose between a Brand new STOCK cam, or a 272 or 274 cam from Myster e Performance.

Still open to input and experiences!

.........its good to see that people realize that his static CR will be lower than what the DCR should be, and would run terrible........ something smaller duration but similar LSA is much better

i would at most use a 272 if nothing could be done to raise the comp but if the Mr E tell you the specs of their cam then you might be able to choose the best one. A single duration figure is meaningless especially an advertised duration....
