Looks like it may have cracked and some one welded it?

Do you have a picture of the underside? If it was welded but done right, you're probably ok. I'd have it pressure checked by a machine shop, they can tell you hoe it looks. Guys have their coolant jackets welded on these for boost, if its done properly it shouldn't hurt a thing.

i have no clue , but am i able to reuse it again , one of the valve tip is smushed or some shit aswell 0_o . so im gonna need to replace that , but with that there i think it was fine i guess because the person that had this engine , was running it with no problems but i think that the valve that is messed needs to be replaced is why he took out the engine and didnt know what happned to it

.....the only thing I would be concerned about after looking at the pictures again, is it looks like it creeped into one of your bearing journals.

thats what i noticed , but like i said it was running like that for a while is what im guessing , because it was being used , the only problem iv found is that one of the valves needs to be replace

Have you tried a scraper on the mess? I've never seen anything like that, but it could be some sort of contamination. A long distance diagnosis is just about impossible, but you should be able to trust the opinion of your machine shop.

welding there is a temporary fix its just gonna crack again where the weld ends in time. Aluminum is shocking in fatigue cracking situations and welding is one of the worst process for fatigue. If the location was not critical it would be ok but the location is in an area that is prone to cracking due to stresses....you could risk it but there seems to be a plentiful supply of uncracked heads in north america and if you are doing a rebuilt why risk it

well , ill talk to the machine shop and see what they have to say about it . this engine is basically my backup so rebuilding it is the way to go for me, plus when i started at it and trying to scrape it , i can say that its pretty solid , nothing would happen ,

I've seen lots of aluminum welding, and done a bit myself.

That doesn't look like any welding I've seen. It's not MIG or TIG-

I'm just kind of curious, that isn't one of those Spanish aftermarket heads, it it? Does it have BMW casting marks?
