    M20 Cams

I know this is very unR3vlimited, probably why I can't find any damn information on this subject, but I'm looking for a cam that will give my car a rough, aggressive idel. I'm sure everyone is familiar with Comp Cams Thumpr series. I'm looking for a cam such as that, would a 272, 284, or what give me the lumpiest, mean sounding idle? Obviously performance is important, but I really want that sound.

I run a 272 which isn't lumpy at all. a 280/274 might be what you're looking for. look into Bimmerheads, they'll set you up with the info and degree you want.

A cam with a proper tune really shouldn't have a lumpy idle at all

I do. I love the sound of a big block V8 with a lumpy idle, but on an otherwise stock (or mild) M20 it is more often a sign of a poorly running engine than a strong one.

I mean yeah, very true, so 272 or something wilder?

Why? Put a V8 in your E30 if you want lumpy idle.

Or better yet, put a Harley Davison engine in there.

a schrick 288 has enough thump for ya? generally there are mechanical problems fitting this cams in M20 running stock pistons (the piston and valves touch). the sound comes from low idle speed to so the slower you get it to run at idle the more it sounds like that. Some of these big miscle cars idle at 600-700rpm or so

have a look on youtube plenty videos

Mmm ptv contact, sounds like a fun time. I assume the idle on an M20 is not easily adjusted, if it even can? I haven't found much on adjusting idle, just people complaining about theirs.

Put a 4 barrel carb on a 320/6 manifold and cam up !

Motronic get it's panties all bunched up with any reasonable amount of overlap.

Also, to run a bunch of overlap you will need way more compression than the B25 has stock.
