M20B25 worth more when parted out?

I got good M20B25i complete engine and I see they go for about 300 to 500 complete. But some people tell me, it may be worth more when parted out. 885 head goes for 250, each piston go for $50, Then M1.3 ecu with good harness go for 100. then other parts like, ac compressor, alternator, ps pump...etc.

I haven't dealt with M20 so long so don't know, is it true?

Not many people will buy b25 pistons unless its from a seta. I think it's worth more sold as a whole. Taking the time to part it out will be more work for you for not very much more gain in money

Actually they do, I watched few on ebay and they got sold. When people rebuild their M20 after timing belt broke, they tend to only replace damaged pistons.

People don't usually rebuild m20s after the timing belts snap unless alot of money is already in it. Most people will just buy a whole m20 because its more cost effective

Just because a new stock piston is $120 doesn't mean people pay $50 each.

I'll sell anyone on this forum a set of 6 with connecting rods for $50 right now!

The engine is worth more as a whole if it's in good running condition.

As stated buying a good running engine is still the cheapest easiest option so most people won't buy used bottom end parts the top end however is easy to sell but separating a good m20 isn't worth it to most

A cylinder head that isnt fresh out of the machine shop is a core even if its off a good running car and may be worth half what the OP hopes.

                  3-5 complete? lol.

Picked up a running one for a sedan a few years ago for $250.

R3V prices may read $300 and up, but real world is much less.

Plus, taking apart a running complete engine to make a few extra bucks is a dick move for the community.

Also, if you expect to get top dollar for a head you better expect to have it decked and pressure tested first... Which will cut into your profit.

other than the bare head, the individual parts are worth more as a boat anchor than separated from a good running engine.

and clearly, a brand new piston for $130 is a rip off compared to a 25 year old, 220,000 mile used piston for $50...
