    Introduction and 1.3 swap help

    What's up r3v,
Ive been on here for a couple months searching for parts and cruising build threads, and Im near completing my 2.7i build,
and therefore near starting the turbo project. I purchased my car from a member on here, and it seems like it was maintained fairly well.

Was:1986 325e sedan, black on houndstooth, euro bumpers, stock drivetrain except Racing Pros Chip and Magnaflow muffler.

Now: black/black, fixed buckets, 55 pin harness and motronic 1.3, 325i intake, momo wheel.

Parts waiting to go on: 885 head (welded jackets?), megasquirt 2 v3.0, generic t3 a/r 50 turbo, ebay manifold and intercooler,
turbonetics 38mm wastegate, tial blow off valve, ProSport Wideband, and Porsche 42lb injectors.

Needed: 325i throttle body, 3 inch exhaust, oil feed/return, tuning.

So, if anyone made it through all that, I just got the car running on motronic 1.3 today to check my wiring before megasquirt goes in, but it idles like crap. I I had to fab up a bracket for the 325i cps, maybe the timing is off if my bracket isn't exactly where the factory is? I don't have the idle control valve or the cold start injector hooked up since I still have the eta tb and afm, but the idle remains rough even when warm. Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks for looking-Logan

yea that CPS needs to be perfect. it would be better to go to a junkyard and just pull one from a 325i, funny that the eta block has the holes to mount that CPS so just use them. i dont believe motronic 1.3 uses a cold start valve and wont have the connection it, so thats something you can just delete and also make some of the hoses a bit more simple. I and eta TB are slightly different, not just in size but in vacuum line placement so if you do change to an I tb (recommended) then make sure you pick up a new valve cover vacuum line. the AFM shouldnt have too much effect on idle (again using an I or m30 one is recommended due to size differences) but i think the eta one can still work, my number one plan would be getting the CPS bracket (proper one) and then ICV to hook up/work since that is something that is for idle its a good bet that may be an issue. im not too sure on MS setups so for all i know you could bypass a bunch of stuff like the afm or icv but not sure.
running the 885 head is what essentially makes it a 2.7i unless you added the cam, dual valve springs, etc to the eta head (still should have smaller intake/exhaust ports)

You must have the right CPS bracket (or it's functional equal). The M20B25 engine management system doesn't use a cold start valve. And the engine will not run worth a darn with the ETA AFM. Also know that you need the 3.0bar FPR and M20B25 injectors.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

          Thanks for all the help,
I didn't get an I afm or injectors because I am only running the 173 dme to check my harness swap before megasquirt. I was hoping the ecu would adjust to the eta injectors off the o2 but it sounds like I have too many mismatched parts for it to run correctly.

At this point the engine turned over and ran on all cylinders, so Ill probably ditch the 173 and afm for megasquirt while I wait for a throttle body and cps bracket.

i'd get it running right on the 173 so you know if you have problem when you plug in the MS it is the ecu/tune and not any of the components.

No one makes this car anymore. The government won't allow them, normal people won't buy them. So it's up to us: the freaks, the weirdos, the informed. To buy them, to appreciate them, and most importantly, to drive them.

Alright. If anyone has the 13lb high impedence injectors and an afm I could borrow for an afternoon that would be sweet. Ill post in the PNW too

I injectors IIRC are 14.5 high impedence. i also agree to get it running right first then do MS swap. 3.0 FPR is also important as well (^good catch Jlevie) what type of exhaust are you using? eta or 325I o2 sensor (one is 3 wire I is 4) make sure its wired up properly if your doing 3 wire o2 to 4 wire harness. also if you plan to do a turbo build look into updating to late model coolant expansion tank as the early model will probably come too close to the turbo.
