    running temp for m20

    hi all,

my temp gauge is on the fritz and I just swapped my motor...can anyone tell me what the running water temp should be for the m20 and at what temp does the engine start overheating?

    thanks

The Gauge on crusing/ highway should be like at 11oclock and in traffic it should be in the middle. Anything over is not correct. Well thats how my car is

i'm thinking of just adding an after market water temp sensor...I've done everything possible to fix the one in the cluster.

I think running water temp should be around 210-220 degrees? does that sound right?

175-200F is normal it gets to 115F in summer here

210 to 220 is too hot IMO and indicates a problem with the cooling system.

very true. your cooling system is having issue. re bleed your system. if that doesnt work. you will need to figure out if you are running too lean, have a system clog, bad thermostat, etc
          Much wow

I agree with this. I only have a mechanical fan (removed AC, don't have an electric replacement) I sit at about 185-195 with normal around town driving and highway cruising. When I'm sitting in traffic it'll spike up to around 200 but I've never seen it jump up more than that.

Sometimes, it can take awhile to get the air worked out of these things.
When replacing my thermostat I always use a "fail open" one. A couple of dollars more
but well worth the peace of mind.
