Dad tried to help clean pistons.

So my dad tried to help clean my pistons while I was at work and he is used to working on 2 stroke chainsaw motors which are a little more durable and can be tinkered with. But he did his usual to the Pistons used a light grind on a dremel to get the carbon off and using 1000 grit and 0000 steel wool on the rough spots and smoothing it out.

I'm gonna use it in my 2.8l build I was wondering if u think this is okay, or could polish it out, or I'm out a piston. im just worried because some of the circular machining marks on the top are barely there any more so he did not cut too deep but do they help with turbulance etc?

but i also have my old uncle saying why does it matter their is gonna be a layer of carbon covering it anyways as long as you dont have pitting it will be fine!

Best thing is to bead blast the tops to get a uniform finish and attract a thin carbon layer which does a similar job to ceramic coating but doesn’t cost $50 per piston. The scratches won’t do anything for turbulence and could probably be run provided no deep gouges that will become a potential hot spot.

make sure you get any grit off it by cleaning and washing them extensively

          Those look fine.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

The surface of the skirt is more important. Tops are fine to run in that condition.
