New Shrick camshaft in 2 pieces

    Long story short,

Bought couple shrick 284 cam from VAC a year ago. Used one right away, and this one was put in storage for quite some time. A customer wanted to buy it and when we opened the box, only to find the camshaft in 2 pieces.

Not sure what had happened, but got no response from VAC after multiple emails.

Just wondering could this be a factory defect or just some weird thing happened to the cam.

Last, is there anyway to repair this cam by welding?

    Any evidence it was dropped?

    There's no fixing it.

Understand that these cams are made out of chilled iron. So they are very hard, but also very brittle. It is very easy to drop one or have one break in shipping (especially during international shipping).

As for a warranty after a year? You're out of luck, in the eye's of the seller or shipper there's a lot of things that can happen in a year of "sitting" on the shelf.

Surely didn't drop it. No sign of ding or dang on the cam.

VAC just responded to my email. Hopefully they can do something about it.

it probably happened during shipment. it's not that uncommon - very hard, very brittle material.

you learned something in life so it is not a total loss. You paid for education. Now you know to check the items upon arrival.
