    AFM worn out? Picture

Is it worn out? Can I adjust it to touch the strip differently?

looks better than a lot of AFMs I've seen. The best way to find out is to actually test it, visual inspection is not enough.

you can bend it slightly to touch a better surface.

      agreed on testing it first

Just did mine tonight. Haven't tested it on the car, but there used to be a dead spot at WOT and now I get a nice steady reading up to WOT. It drops just a tad (4.1 down to 3.8-3.9) right at max open, so I'll have to see if that matters.

You can see where I bent the arm to contact a fresh part of the strip.

Just an update, test drove the car today and the AFM worked perfectly. Be careful when you bend the arm so it's even on both sides.

This may help, shows how to adjust tracking.

                For a quick summary:

As per the article, the author suggest using a 9V battery and DMM to test the AFM. These AFM's are not designed to have that power run through them. These are designed for low current 5V max.

Additionally, DMM's provide an average electrical reading. SO when you are measuring your voltage output, your meter is simply displaying an average.

Only an oscilloscope is capable of reading the voltage signal sufficient enough to display voltage drops that can occur in the milliseconds, a time scale that the DMM would never capture.

I have rebuilt well over 200 AFM's and when tested with a DMM they appear to pass, however, when tested on a oscilloscope, it fails.

Here is an example of a bad AFM on an oscilloscope. BTW, a DMM would never capture this data.
