Hey guys, recently purchased a 325ic and I have been out of the M20 game for a couple of years now.
It is dramatically low on power. Not where it wants to die ever, but just low. If you hold the throttle body open, the RPM's build up extremely gradually until it reaches the powerband where it then picks up pretty well. It idles rough, but strong.
On first impression it sounds like a vacuum leak, but the valvetrain makes a considerable amount of noise. Not the normal M20 tick, but a loud carbureted V8 type noise, the whole engine sounds like a very old V8. So with that I think the valves are extremely out of spec, but would that cause a considerable loss of power?
