Just bought my first E30!

Hi guys, I recently bought a 90' 325 sedan, off of a girl I met at a party awhile back. She said it stopped running up the street from her house a couple months back and has sat ever since. Haven't gotten to play with it at all yet. Gonna see what it sounds like when I try to crank it when I get off work. Not really sure where to start trouble shooting though. She said a couple people looked at it and all said different things. So that is no help. If I can't tinker with it for a couple of days and get it working, I'm just gonna take it to my mechanic. I've wanted a E30 for so long though,I would really like to fix it myself. I know no one can tell me what's wrong with it but maybe give me some direction? Thanks in advance!

I would not crank it, I would pull the timing belt cover to see if thats broken first.

Yup. Remove the oil cap and rotate the crank by hand to see if the cam is rotating.

Update, tried to crank it. Just made a whining noise didn't even attempt to crank.

Update, tried to crank it. Just made a whining noise didn't even attempt to crank.

Maybe she lied about it breaking down while driving it, otherwise maybe she always just parked on hills and bump started it
