    Lost oil pressure

Driving on the freeway yesterday, the engine became noisy as quick as a light switch and the oil pressure light came on. Pulled over immediately.

Seems like the oil pump has failed. I did a little searching and not much on the topic. I plan to connect an oil pressure gauge.

I am looking for advice and words of wisdom... What are the chances I did damage to the engine?

If you pulled over immediately then chances are your engine is okay. The warning light comes on way before a catastrophic event can happen to your engine.

Have you checked your oil level just in case?

I would replace the oil pump and see how it goes. I'd worry a bit about the noise though. Metal on metal for just a moment is not good. But replacing a pump is a heck of a lot easier than rebuilding the engine. So I'd try that first. I would by no means run the engine again at all until you know you're going to get oil pressure.

Should be fine. I would NOT try to restart it, though-
unless you simply ran out of oil...

Get the oil pump drive fixed, then prime it, and THEN try checking pressure!
