    327 to alpina c2.7

I've researched all places but does any one know the internals of the alpina head? Valve size cam lift and various things?

I'm in discussion on taking my solo Fp car and Turing it to a road race Fp car. Since nationals are at Daytona my friends Miata would get stomped. SCCA now allows the 325e into that class and he is wiling to build a race engine and chassis development for free to borrow the car. I just need to convince him a 325e could stomp the field if done right.

    Thanks

stock valve sizes modified chamber to a hemi style, schrick 272 is close enough

they convert the 885 to a open hemi style and remove the angled squish band for the most part, these days engine designers and builders take the opposite approach with a smaller closed chamber and plenty of squish for a more efficient design. even the modern hemi strickly aren't real hemi's anymore

the inlet flow is basically the same as stock but the exhaust flows better. the exhaust port is gasket matched

any competent head porter should be able to do a far superior job IMO

ahhh i see so they took out the hump part... but its not worth it you think? im trying to open up the head on my 2.8 build m52 crank stock I pistons E rods, but i dont want to go crazy, doing a bunch of porting and such so i was thinking a reground bimmerheads cam, and the alpina treatment.

i wouldn't do the alpina treatment, firstly it lowers compression ratio, increases surface area, reduces the squish band which is there in the first place to help reduce tendency to knock and provides mixture to improve combustion efficiency.

port work is very valuable, but the chamber doesnt need the alpina mod thats all i meant

Entertainingly, this follows what bmw motorsport/Alpina did on the M30's and M10's. It also makes them much more susceptible to cracking between the valve seats. You won't find a true early Alpina M30 that hasn't had at least a couple cracks repaired. I took pictures of one hemi'd head that had a repaired crack in each of the 6 chambers.

Makes one wonder where you draw the line in performance versus reliability
