I think I figured it out, but I only got a reading for a split second. Does this look fried? I cant get a consistent reading anywhere

    How to test m20 rotor?

While I'm here, does the distributor look good or bad?

Get the same part from a good running engine and try using it.

Boys, they look bad. Order new ones from Blunt or RM. They are fairly inexpensive.

Haha they look bad to me too! Thanks for the opinion I will order both just for pre-emptive maintanence!

I just ordered cap and rotor from bavauto. cheaper than blunt and easier to find on their website.

I would check the plug wires for resistance and get new spark plugs...

Most likely because it's not a Genuine BMW part.

Got plugs about a week ago because those looked bad too, and I'm going to test wires again but they all checked out before I put the new coil in. I ordered mine from FCPeuro because they are in CT and I'm in MA. I looked around and all the prices seemed pretty similar to me

                  the rotor was like $25

                    Blunt has a website?

But seriously, I never use it. I just email him the part numbers I want, he emails back with prices and I pay. He is always cheaper or the same as everyone else including shipping. Occasionally I'll see something cheaper on ECS, but then they charge 3 times as much for shipping and still end up more expensive.

Both the cap and rotor are physically damaged as well as worn out.

It's a Bosch cap and rotor. That's good enough for me.

Those are easy to test. Go to the end of the longest dock you can find, and fling them out into the water.

If they float back to you, then you can use them.

                            otherwise, call Blunt...

I got the new ones but still no start. Battery was low so I'm charging it but I'm doubtful that will help. Spark is orange.
