Oh man that sucks dude :(

I recently got my 731 head rebuilt and now I'm spending a ton getting my bottom end completely refreshed. I'm kind of paranoid about something like that happening because it certainly is difficult finding one those heads in the US.

Out of curiosity, what camshaft did you have in it? Mine has the b20 - D cam but I'm really thinking about taking it all apart again and using a stock b25 and also just getting some new rocker arms.

If you aren't truly committed to the idea of a 731 head, I have a recently rebuilt 885 head (around 1k miles) I am looking to unload.

Having owned an eta, a 2.5i, a 'low compression' 2.7i, and an m30 powered e30, I can say that any criticism of the 885 head on eta pistons is massively overblown. I haven't driven a 731 2.7i, but I would build an 885 2.7i again in a second.

I'm on my phone so no pictures but the piston has a 4cm hole in the center from the broken valve bouncing around. Cylinder wall has barely any marks, and the head is destroyed on cylinder 5. Head is not repairable. I sent Andy a message, if anyone else can help me source anothrr that would be appreciated. Now, I have a friend with an e28 535i that I can purchase for $400 and could sell m20 swap parts and do an m30 swap. If I have an entire m30 car, are there any parts I would need for an m30 swap (other than engine mounts) not on that car or my 86 325e?

If your "e" has the large guibo driveshaft, I think you're good to go. Don't forget a nice electric fan. You can get a 16" SPAL pusher for ~100.
