    Water Pump Pulley Question

    Hey R3v,

Need someone to hold my hand through this issue. So, I just put the harmonic balancer back on the crank (m20b25), however the pulley that goes on the water pump will absolutely not fit back on due to the HB being in the way.

Any insight? Totally stumped. Lmk if you'd like a pic of what I'm talking about.

    Update:

This motor I've been putting together is a Super ETA bottom end with an i cylinder head. I just put my old i harmonic balancer on and, oh my goodness, it all fits. However I'm concerned, why wouldn't the other one work? Will I F things up by putting an i HB on an e block?

So mind f'ed right now. The water pump for each motor wouldn't be any different.. So why would one harmonic balancer not be compatible?

You do know that the belt that drives the water pump also drives the alternator, right?

There are three pulleys on the harmonic balancer. One for the alternator & pump, one for the power steering, and one for the A/C. Unless you have some odd ball harmonic balancer there should not be any problem with the pulley/belts.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

I want a pic- cage match of the 2 harmonic balancers side- by- side.

BMW did some odd stuff- it would not be too shocking if they had a different
balancer and waterpump pulley for the seta...

now, sometimes I just mess with people. It's more entertaining that way. george graves

Yeah idk it's really odd, the balancers compared side by side are a bit different in their geometry. The "i" was the only one that would work. I'll bring some pics later.

there are early and late pulleys - they are different diameters.
