Rattle from front of engine on slight acceleration and deceleration.

Can't pin point exactly where this is coming from. I was thinking of the distributor cap/rotor as best case or worst case water pump?

It goes away after initial acceleration.
Sorry for video quality but hard to capture otherwise.

I've searched this forum and others but haven't heard similar sound to start and troubleshoot. Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks

Sounds like a job for a mechanic's stethoscope!

    Or a long screwdriver if you're budget-oriented :D

Being paranoid, I'd change the timing belt before starting it again.

Not sure that is it, but it would SUCK if it was.

^This. The sounds is like the timing belt rubbing against the housing. Check it out immediately!

Will do, just sucks since timing belt was done about 5k miles ago. About 1 year. She doesn't get driven much. Any reason it doesn't do it at all RPMs? Weird if I I just hold it at the right rpm (while under the hood not at the accelerator pedal) I can get it to keep making the noise)

I was thinking the belt tensioner.

I think it would be okay to skip the water pump and thermostat since they were just changed. I was just looking at ECS tuning and they have a Gates Racing timing belt made from Kevlar that's "300% stronger". Anyone have reviews on this over the OEM conti?

Obviously replacing the tensioner at the same time. OEM recommended?

Not sure if I'm following the wheel bearing logic. Car isn't moving.

Basically what you should do is use the stethoscope and have a friend at the throttle body making the noise. Prod around until you find it and viola. The gates belt is good but the service interval really isn't different and it apparently can make a bit more noise than an OEM belt. Really best suited to track cars/high power setups.

                        Thanks ELVA164. Good to know.

Ahlem your suggestion on power steering pump intrigues me. I had a small unexplained puddle of power steering fluid a few months back after I replaced the rack and reservoir but since then it hasn't leaked. I inspected all the banjo bolts and couldn't find the culprit. No change in steering effort or resistance.

Forgot to add that the puddle was directly under where the steering pump is. Any other tell tale signs of a failing pump?

I'll try the stethoscope but that will force me to have her running to try and pinpoint.

Steering pumps tend to make noise when the engine is running and you turn the wheels. Usually.
