2.7 build, can someone dumb it down for me?

Alright hey guys, i can see there is a lot of info on this. Im contemplating doing the swap with a 1987 525e motor and the head off my 1985 323i. From a quick read i saw that they should bolt together without any modification, but id like to know, will i need the harness from the old car? should i port the head? (i plan to go turbo) I will obviously need an MLS headgasket and upgraded head studs, but apart from that will i need to do anything? change valves? i plant to do alot of this myself, so id like to know what im in for.

    Thanks!:p:)

use a bone stock 885 head if going turbo. id convert to the b25 electrics and then get a PNP MS

i bought mine already swapped. not fully built but only swapped. i harness , 885 of course make sure the head is in good shape , 325i ecu, 7k guage and coding plug (depending on the year of your car) im using an early IS coding plug because i have an 86. this beats having a stock eta but not by far because the compression is still low.

budget for the 2.7 is about 2k, not going to worry about turbo straight way, ill bolt that on later, i just want to build the motor so when i do bolt it on it can handle it.

Is it completely out of the question to do it with the 731 head? Will i have to go an 885 head?

I'm putting a 731 head on an ETA but I have no intention of doing a turbo. Bigger valves, ported, motronic upgrade, dual valve springs, cam etc etc...I'm about at $2k in parts and machine shop.

If turbo is On the agenda listen to digger

In my opinion the 731 head needs quite a bit of work to compare to the 885. If the 731 was ported and running the bigger valves from the 885, sure it's good. All depends how crazy you want to go.
