    Throttle issues

I need you guys help. A couple times recently I have had my throttle get stuck open. One time I pulled up to a light had it in neutral and it was running around 4k. I touched the gas and it reset like it was stuck on something. I was checking it out this am and man is the cable the nut and plastic rusted and old. I know I need to replace thus item, but for the meantime I was hoping to tighten and clean up the original parts.
My true problem: I went to tight the cable (it has some serious play) and I couldn't even budge the plastic piece to tighten it. The cable is so rusted it is stuck. Can I spray wd40 on this part to help smooth it out and work on loosing the parts? Or will that do more damage than good?

Wd40 won't hurt anything. I'd use a penetrating grease though.

I would just spend $20 on a new cable, nut, and plastic bushing. Replacing them takes an hour tops and makes a huge difference.

Thanks guys. I do plan on replacing the part, the wd40/lube idea is just a temp fix, to help it operate correctly until part comes in and I have an hour around work/kids hockey schedule and my school schedule. Thanks again

An old trick to lube cables is to free up one end and stick it in a small freezer bag full of whatever oil/lube you have handy then squeeze the bag.mthe pressure will get far more oil in there than any other method. If it's rust you may want to start with PB blaster then finsihnupnwith some liquid graphite.
