    Head gasket install problem

    hey guys, long time lurker, but first time posting.

    im putting a new headgasket on my e30, and i had an out of shape dowel pin ( which i am now replacing) and i put the head gasket down on the block and the edge of the pin pulled up ever so slightly on the headgasket. was wondering if itll be ok, or should i go ahead and buy another gasket? which will be the 3rd because the first fell off my toolbox and bent a corner... this car will eventually see boost

    Use a Dremel and round off the part that pops up.

        Might not "sound like a good idea" but it will work if you have a steady hand.

        I really don't think you will have an issue in the first place.

            I would agree with this. There is plenty of extra material around the damage, and it is around a bolt hole, not a fluid passage, so you should be fine.

              it'll flatten out under the the 50t+ load, its glorified cardboard
              89 E30 325is Lachs Silber - currently M20B31, M20B33 in the works, stroked to the hilt...

                I'm with Digger- squash it with head bolt torque. Or trim it back just a tiny bit with a
                sharp matknife blade. The only possible issue could be if it folds back on itself (which it won't)
                and makes a double- thickness high spot.

                  That part doesn't do anything, it's not near any sealing surfaces so just run it.
