...or there was a bit of scoring in a spot on the cam journal where the cam doesn't usually run, or in the groove in the center bearing...
and the cam just didn't want to go over that.
But yeah, check everything carefully, twice, before you reuse any of it.
Unless you can for certain find the root cause... pix would help a lot 'bout right now.

I would not use either the head or the cam after these symptoms. At the very least the head is toast and the cam should be carefully checked with a couple V-blocks and a dial indicator for straightness.Leave a comment:

Unless you gouged the hell out of the bearing just smooth it up with some fine wet/dryLeave a comment:

I took off the plug on the back of the head and used a dowel and a hammer to hit the cam from there. It came loose after a couple of hits. The cam bearings look good but I might have messed up the rear cam bearing on the head when I was taking off the cap on the backLast edited by Jimmyac28; 08-22-2016, 06:00 PM.Leave a comment:

Yea I agree. I doubt it's warped to the point the cam won't come out. If it spins have someone rotate it slowly while you mallet/wooden dowel from the back. Mine wasn't easy to come out either. Head was fine it was just stuck with about 220k on it. I got mine out by just not giving a fuck anymore and "strategically" using a pvc pipe wedged on one of the lobes and hammered the shit out of it. 2 wacks and it came out. So far I'm 10k on that head still strong.

if it doesnt take too much torque to turn there might be a burr thats getting caughtLeave a comment:

At this point id be throwing head in trash and buying a used one. If head is warped enough it wont let cam come out. Then the head and cam are both useless and your just wasting time.Leave a comment:

The cam doesnt turn by hand but it does turn with a wrend with a little resistanceCam lobes look fine, I don't think it lost oil pressure. Does the cam turn easily? I'm guessing the head is very warped. If the cam doesn't slide in, out, and turn nicely you probably don't want to use the head. Use an oven like said above, or a torch to grow the head, should come right out.Leave a comment:
