Valve clearance - Feeler between cam and follower? - 0.30mm for best performance?

Will I get better results if I adjust valve clearance like this, rather then the "normal" way between the rocker and valve stem?

    Found this info here:

Here is a really usefull tip!
if the head is not new the method described can often still result in the wrong clearance, this is because the eccentric usually wears a little hollow in the tip of the valve stem, the feeler gauge bridges this hollow and holds the eccentric above it so you end up with a much bigger clearance that you think and the engine still ticks

So a better way is to put the feeler gauge between the cam and the follower BUT!!!! you must then account for the rocker ratio and the setting should be only 007" or 0.16mm

This will work every time no matter how worn the eccentrics are and you should have a nice quiet engine again 8)
    EDIT:
Also, what adjustment is optimal for best performance? E30talk seems to think 0.30mm is best. (which translates to 0.192mm between cam and follower)
On M20 (320i, 323i, 325e, 325i), it has the valve clearance proved contrary to BMW specifications (0.25 mm) to adjust a little looser. i.e. 0.30 mm inlet and outlet side. This provides a more stable idle (especially when 320i) and some fuel zigere performance. The clickers the valves becomes barely noticeable louder, the measure is worthwhile in any case.
ich weiß, es gibt so viele Beiträge zu diesem Thema. Aber will hier mal eure Erfahrungen hören.

You can do a google search for "m20b25 Ventileinstellung" if you want more info.

I think that is a capital way to score the cam/rocker and wipe out a cam lobe.
I'm sure it works for others. I don't like it. Personally.

Usually, the valve tip wears a flat onto the eccentric, and then when you try to adjust it,
    that flat's now a point...

Even if I were to use a (softer) brass feeler gauge?

Otherwise, I do see your point.

A feeler gauge isn't going to scratch anything. Lots of people adjust the valves this way without issue. Search and you will find lots of threads on it.

          Perhaps not,
but the feeler is a LOT harder than the cam lobe,
and usually has sharp edges. And may be dragged across
the lobe with some pressure against it. I'm paranoid after having wiped a couple lobes,
so I'll live with a bit of tick. And I've never looked REALLY carefully
at the tip of the stem, but again, the tip's really hard ompared to the lash adjuster.

          That's just me.
