    looking for a new muffler

hi, so still working on a M20 on the engine stand, almost done with that but have another question.
my cousin found a set of IE headers and full exhaust minus muffler for the car so now hes looking for the best muffler to get.
i've never dealt with getting an aftermarket exhaust other than bolt on kits. i had one buddy tell me to get a flowmaster but i was wondering what you guys would recommend. it will be a single inlet, 2.5" i believe.
    thank you

Budget in mind? Thrush turbo sounds pretty good behind an inline, not too loud and are on the lesser expensive side - their welded also sounds decent. Expect some rasp if you don't have any resonators or a cat, though. If you don't mind the price, my favorite to date is Billy Boat triple chambers, but they are dual in/out.

thanks for the reply. not too sure on budget but don't really want anything like 300+. it does have a cat so that should help with the rasp. and must be single in, dual out would be nice but not required.

I used a Thrush Glasspack on my Eta... I've been happy with it. I think I paid around $65 for it.

Are glasspacks loud on these? All the ones I've heard have been on big displacement motors.

No, I don't find it too loud. Search for my posts, I put up a video just after installing it. I don't have the middle resonator either.

Youtube link in my singature has a video of an ITB m20 (dual 2"), twin 15" glasspack resonators, x-pipe at the CSB and Supersprint header clones, no muffler. 12" resonators were too loud for Robeling Road ordinances.

I had an eta that was silent to the point I couldn't tell if it was even on at stoplights, then replaced the factory rear muffler with a thrush 18'' glasspack. It definitely wasn't pushing legal limits but it was impossible to sneak around because it made a ton of noise at 2000 rpm. I kept it and replaced the factory mid resonator with a Magnaflow 2.5'' muffler and it actually got very slightly louder but the sound quality after all that was excellent and got a lot of compliments, the drone at 2000 did not go away however. It's a bit quieter to drive in 4th on the freeway.

I don't know what your preferences are, but m20s get a gnarly drone around 2k rmp. if you're going to daily this car and that's something that would annoy you, i'd look into getting something that has been proven not to drone. Just a heads up

thanks, thats the type of info i was looking for. the drone is not a deal breaker but what muffler or style of muffler do you think would be drone free?
