Need advice pulling an engine

    Nando had stated (and showed pictures) that it's possible to pull an ix motor with trans and transfercase attached. He said it's pretty tricky and he's far more experienced than most. So if you're still having trouble, I'd consider following everyone else's advice and disconnecting the trans.

      Since I apparently wasn't clear in my previous post, not only am I not still having trouble, but the engine/transmission assembly is out. It was actually quite easy once I dropped the subframe.

      If I had to do it over again on an iX, I'm not sure which way I would do it: pull the transmission first, or drop the subframe. It seems either will work, but I think I'd lean towards four easy bolts (the subframe) over about 10 hard ones (the transmission). This much is certain: once I got to where I was, with the engine/transmission combo part-way out and stuck, the top transmission bolts become inaccessible, so the only way forward at that point is the subframe route.
