    Exhaust Question

Due to some fuel issues and a wicked backfire, I'm now in need of a muffler. The PO/muffler shop has eliminated everything but the muffler from my exhaust system. It has two pipes coming from the headers, right into a y-pipe, then one pipe to the muffler. In terms of my car running fine and performance, do I need a resonator, cat, dual pipes to the rear of the car? Or is it fine as it is and I should just replace the muffler?

Should be fine as it is. Do you need a cat for inspection? Just something to keep in mind.

No inspection here. Thanks for mentioning, though.

I have a y pipe in the factory location and a 2.5" single pipe all the way back to a Borla XS muffler.
You will need some sort of center muffler or resonator to stop drone.

Would a glass pack work for that purpose(drone stopping resonator)? The guy helping me with the exhaust has one laying around and says it might sound good.

Glasspacks (packed with fiberglass) are generally pretty loud. Think muscle car. An inline muffler would work better for droning and keeping things quiet. Like this https://www.carid.com/flowmaster/out...HHiBoCM-3w_wcB

I've used a glasspack for a center resonation- reducer- it works.
It's more the change in pipe diameter than the fiberglass, I think.
In fact, the one I had blew its guts out over a few months,
and it was still drone- free...

now, sometimes I just mess with people. It's more entertaining that way. george graves
