N/A M20 mods... headers, intake, MAF, chip, etc..

I know this topic has been discussed, in length. Most people asking probably haven't owned 13 other BMWs before...

So, let me start with this:
    1. I want reliability. It's going to be a DD/fun car.
    2. I know it's not going to make 200whp. I know an S50 swap or turbo is the best bang-for-buck option.
    3. I don't have the time/desire/resources to do an M50/S50/XXX swap.
    4. I'm focused on making a balanced car. Suspension - brakes - power

In addition to basic maintenance items I'm considering the following:
Right now I'm mulling around the idea of investing in some eBay long tube headers (e36 guys love their eBay headers), magnaflow/borla muffler, KAmotors intake, and then going with the Miller MAF/19lb injectors conversion/chip.

If I'm correct, those things should keep the M20 characteristics while livening things up a bit, freeing up some factory restrictions, and maintain drive-ability and reliability.
I've already got the car up on jack stands to install new struts/springs/drop hats/bushings, new tires, likely going to do rotors and pads too.

Am I fool? Should I just save those hundreds of dollars and invest it in penny stocks?

I dont think an exhaust without opening the head and intake will accomplish much. I did chip and injectors and was worth the few $$. No exp with MAf.s but have read mixed reviews.I'd stay on the path youre on and refresh everything

^^ That's kind of why I'm thinking I either go all the way or none at all after the maintenance stuff.

I know by itself none of those mods are worth investing in, but I'm hoping to hear that together, the whole package would liven things up a bit in the power/response/sound departments.

I would cut everything on the list, except maybe nice headers, and convert to Megasquirt for most gains. Aside from the cost of tuning, you're spending the same roughly.

Im not feeling it. Honestly, chip and injectors is maybe $225 and is good BFTB. Not sure about MS on a stock engine but with ITBs and headers you'd feel it

Well as for tuning, I'm in the middle of WI, the number of tuners here is extremely scarce. From what I recall in my WRX days, the only semi-reputable tuner was charging $210/hr here. For an N/A engine I can't imagine $210/hr would get me anything better than a basic chip would.

ITB's would be fun down the road, but right now I don't think dropping $1400+ on a set from RHD would be very prudent :)

I thought the MAF conversion would have been more popular, seems like everyone likes them from what I've read.

pnp chip and headers should make it a bit more fun. cheap mufflers never sound that good IMO. forget about 19lb injectors total waste of time

Copy that. My muffler appears to be original and about to rust off, so I'd probably slap on something aftermarket while I'm down there.
