    Extremely loud 19# injectors?

I just installed a set of used 19# Ford injectors (III design) on my M20 and while the car runs great, the engine is suddenly LOUD. It's making so much noise that I would initially expect the valves to be WAY out of adjustment, but since I drove the engine just before the change and it was quiet, the only change is the injectors.

Are they really this loud? Or should I investigate something else?

(The injectors were low mileage used. I cleaned them well with brake cleaner (they were already very clean) and replaced all the o-rings.)

The old injectors looked horrible... I'm surprised the car was even running with them...

    Thanks!

you probably shuoldn't have cleaned them with brake cleaner. Electronics cleaner would have been better.

Maybe you have not cranked down the intake manifold all the way? How does the car drive? Do you hear any vacuum leaks?

Actually I was following detailed instructions from a BMW tech... non-CRC brake cleaner is very similar to electronics cleaner... neither leaves a residue.

Is your car running sluggishly? Are you noticing a slight stumble as you drive? Chances are, your fuel injectors need to be cleaned.

I did not remove the intake manifold, so no change there...

The car drives great.... much better than before actually. No vacuum leaks or fuel leaks apparent.

      Thanks!

my 19#ers are crazy loud too, at first i thought it was valves but all my valves have perfect cold clearance, i cleaned them with brake/carb cleaner before install as well

well, it might have to do with the ecu trying to make use of the new injectors, and while its adjusting, the car is running rich. when the car runs rich, it sounds a lot louder.

I have the same injectors in my E28 and I didn't notice any loudness...

I did, however, notice a lot of noise coming from the front of the motor, so I treated all the belts with WD40 (we discussed this before, its safe and they don't slip). It caused EVERY SINGLE unidentified noise to go away.

Have you tried using a long screwdriver to listen to each injector while the car is running?

I remember after i swapped injectors and the chip (MarkD), my car sounded quite different. At first it was terribly rich and ran like crap. After it adjusted, it still sounded a bit different but i've long since gotten used to it and could car e less, the car is significantly smoother and more powerfl.

That seems a little low since i got ones that flow 52 lbs/hr in my 2.2 dodge. But i looked up #19 inj. lastnight and it said they flow 19lbs/hr.

In the E30 they are supposed to flow 19lbs, but in the E24 and E28 I guess since the pressure is higher they flow almost 21?
