M20 Crankshaft Position Sensor

So I got mine (Hella CPS off rockauto) and installed it and it works perfect. The only thing is that, even though the pictures showed it as the metal ones like OEM, it has the plastic cap with the metal dot at the end like the aftermarket ones. It is definitely a hella part though, came in a Hella box and has it printed on the wires. Time will tell if it lasts but... Seems to work great. Shoot, if the OEM BMW is $170, and this Hella one was $43 (~60 now), I'd have to go through about 4 until the cost equalizes. and it takes like 20 mins to install. Seems like a no brainier to me unless it craps out before the year ends. Which is very doubtful since it's an OEM brand.

My '85 325e is an early model with two crankshaft position sensors on the transmission bell housing and no camshaft position sensor. One of the connectors where the sensor plugs into the engine wiring harness was disintegrating and occasionally causing hard starting or preventing starting all together.


I ordered Bosch replacements for both crank sensors from Amazon for $48 shipped. Part number 0261210001.
