    AC compressor causing overheating?

    Would a bad bearing in an AC compressor cause the car to run slightly hotter?
    PO did not have ac belt on car, put belt on car, recharged system, now car runs at half temp guage and not at 1/4 as previously remembered.

    Coolant temp sensor replaced during ac hook up, along with another coolant hose replacement. I am 100% sure I got all air out of coolant system. Bled multiple times over the course of 50 miles.. not sure where to go from here.

    doubt it. the amount of heat that would go into the bearing would cook it pretty good and make it seize and throw a belt or something.

    its probably running fine just the gauge reads different or wasn't bleeded properly. shoot the thermostat housing and some hoses with a temp gun and see what it says

    if you are running with the A/C on the temp will rise inherently. if the A/C is not on the compressor shouldn't be spinning as the A/C clutch is disengaged

      Okay, I just noticed the temps higher by alot, it might have just been the previous temp sensor as that one had some corrosion on it, where would dead center be on the guage?

        if you pull the cluster out and clean the contacts and nut on the back it will probably read different again lol

          Depending on which engine you have there are different sensors so you may not have changed the one for the temp gauge

              In my experience with the M20, the temp gauge does creep up a bit more when the A/C is on, but of course not enough to overheat. From what I understand anything between the 1/4 cold and 3/4 hot marks is normal. I'd use a laser thermometer to determine where your operating temps actually are, then you can go changing sensors and cooling system components

                  Figured the whole thing out, it was the stupid nut on the back of the odometer.. turned out to be that there was none, and it was slowly working the guage out of the odometer.

                  Fixed it, and seems to hover around the 1/4 mark now, i did test it with a IR thermometer, and all seemed to work.
