on all 84 - 87 cars, C104 lives right next to the ECU, its a 3 pin connector that plugs in right next to the ECU harness (you can see it coming out of it)

On this connector, it provides Coil Power, MPG Gauge, and Tachometer Information for the car.

On 88 - 91 E30's, C104 was integrated into the C101 harness, so it no longer exists.

If you look at my adapter I made, you can see the C104 3 pin connector coming out the side. That was to plug in to the factory connector under the dash on the 84 325e. Now as you are installing it on an early chassis using a late model wiring harness (I presume 88+) The Green power wire on the 325e 84 side that lives on C104 will no longer be used.

Please look at these PDF files to help you shed some light on the wiring.

Here is an 85 diagram, which is pretty much the same as the 84 for 6 cylinders.

Here is an 89 wiring diagram for all 88+ harness's

Keep in mind these are for the entire car, and you will need to run through the pages to each section (Injection Electronics, Check Engine Light, Instrumentation etc) to get all the pin colors. I have a full diagram in my shop but I won't be on that computer for awhile. If you carefully read through each PDF it will take you about an hour or two to decipher everything.

I recommend having the junkyard connectors in front of you so you can confirm wire color. The diagrams are pretty easy to read so you should not have any issues.

Anything else let me know =) Have fun!

who made a real harness, instead of Hack&Shrink? (hack the harness, and shrink tube it together)

I doubt anybody bought new pins, and used quality heat shrink (dr-25 and aircraft quality wire (Raychem)

I simply rewired my firewall engine connector so its a factory connection. And in all honesty who the hell spends that much time/aggravation on a damn adapter. Its like polishing a turd, adapters are to make it easy, not clean.

I give maniacmatt a ton of credit for doing some actual wiring, instead of running out and buying a treehouse adapter like alot of people.

If you can put a motor in a car, you can wire it, if you can't wire it, then you have alot to learn.

Sweet, I had questions like this weeks ago and posted threads, went as far as pm'ing several of the people who responded to this very thread, and didn't get a single reply. Now everyone knows the answers, but before I couldn't even get a "I don't know". Sweet.

Why would you use aircraft quality wire? last time I checked we were talking about wiring a car an automobile not an aircraft, So I am quite positive automotive quality wire should work just fine.

And who gives a shit what heat shrink you used at the end of the day its still heat shrink. And at the end of the day my car will run just the same as yours even if I only used automotive grade wire and "sumitube" heat shrink.

Give it a rest, your not better than anyone else because of the type of heat shrink you used.
