Anyway, I may do a carb setup on my M20 depending on what happens later on. If so I'll be sure to do a writeup :)
Do it! It would be the first m20 e30 with carbs that I will know of. I've heard crap around, but I've never seen pictures. Do it.

As for getting some carbs I'd suggest going to a junkyard and looking for some 240Zs or going to forums FOR cars of that type. You're bound to find someone on the boards who took on a project car they can't afford and need to make some money quick. Or if all else fails.... Ebay. They have plenty of Weber, dellorto, SU, and even some Mikuni carbs for a decent price.
Yet again nobody has shown me where to get a manifold thats being produced in the US. that thread was created in 2005. I know the manifolds exist I knew about m20 side draft manifolds before I had an m20 to put in my car. It was a route I considered taking when I was installing the engine in my 318i. Thanks for trying though.

Korman sells Webber conversions for the e21, which used the m20. But I can't tell if it's for that exactly. Their website has always been pretty vague. Does anyone know anything about this or do they have experience with this? I'm not certain about what from the e21 m20 is compatible with the e30 m20.

Turns out it can be done and it has been. If anybody's interested, I'd PM the guy as soon as his post count gets up.

How much power can the m20 gain from a triple carb setup with correct tuning ?

BMP Design use to sell a 6 throttle body setup for fuel injection for the m20 motor. It cost like $2300.00 for it too !! But I am not sure if they still carry it though. Go down to page 3 on this pdf and you will see it there at this link

I've looked into this myself. Carb setups have less restriction than FI. They've been shown to have better mileage and slightly more power. However, there's less modulation and you can't tune as well across the rev range. They work best in a close window of operation. If you have it set for high rev and high power it will idle poorly. The owner of this car is on BF.c talking about having that very problem...
