Alright guys, this is what a eta bottom end and i head gets you.

Thanks for the great write up, will be using the data much. It seems to me that if you're trying to make the eta quicker wouldn't it help to get rid of the dual mass flywheel pdq?

Nicely done OP. I like that you point out exactly what most people miss with the i head swap to an eta... the torque curve. Bascially the same peak torque, but you get more torque much lower in the range. Often times people just focus on HP, but your butt dyno is going to feel the torque way before the HP does anything. Even more so in an i swapped eta.

Now... how's your gas mileage compared to before? ;)

you dont need MS, its better for outright performance but motronic with a chip will work just not optimal

Would this car run without the use of maga squirt?

I believe our car blew a head gasket (although I haven't touched it since parking it in the garage after our last race), so we'll have to at least pull the head anyway. Since I now have most of the parts needed to do the swap, it'd be silly not to.

We thought about this for our lemons car too but decided against it for now. Perhaps after our first race we'll look in to it again, but right now it's all about reliability.

I was able to pick up all of the swap parts except for the ECU for $75. Our eta finally got hurt in our last race (after 5 races and probably 3000+ miles racing with unknown mileage - not bad), so I'm going to hopefully do a cheapo rebuild and 2.7i conversion.

I ran into another thread with more details and existing dyno plots for anyone interested...

I'm doing the same thing for my Chump car. Although my i stuff was $500. But at least it came with an entire car....

So, I'd like to see those dyno plots again too. Actually, I'd like to see a stock e engine, stock i engine and the e/i combo on one plot. Anyone have that?????

because it's a gauranteed power increase and more track friendly redline and it's going to cost him $75.00

I'd like to see the dyno plot, looks like it's gone. Does anyone have the source for it? I have an '87 325e LeMons car and it looks like I may be able to score the i head, cam, intake, all electronics, etc. for $75. I know swapping this onto my eta bottom end will drop compression, but we are budget limited by our racing series. If the results really are anything close to 138 HP and 143 TQ, I'd be damn happy since that'd be a significant jump in power, plus the ability to rev over 5K which would be nice for longer tracks.

Megasquirt ain't for the squeemish, a motronic 1.3 swap would be a hell of a lot easier, unless you know something about tuning engine managment systems. Scratch that a 1.3 swap is still easier.
