what can we do to give Mr m20 power

For the past couple of months i drive the m20 thinking if i should swap it or put some type of power to it boost it maybe. Or maybe just put an I head with a e bottom end for the lower end torque. I think this is a time for all the M20 specialist to come and guide us through this problem. dont get me wrong the M20 can feel great sometimes but it would be great to have some more back bone. what do you guys think about this or what should i do.

i'd start with a rebuild. Have the head ported, valves back-cut, 2.7 crank, overbore on the pistons for a 2.8 stroker. Knife edge the crank, crank scraper, agressive cam, 10:1 -11:1 pistons depending on what you want your octane needs to be, customized ECU chip. and have the intake manifold gasket matched to the heads, maybe send it off for extrude-hone. get some nice full length headers, 2.5" exhaust. good to roll.

I honestly dont think the M20 is worth rebuilding, you would be better off swapping to an M5x motor

...885 head 5 angle seat cut new double valve springs (billet rockes if you can aford them), reshape the manifold ports, large bore throttle body, software change (Steve Dinan did a good job on this one), slow down the accessories (under-drive the alt, wp and ps). Then start throwing parts away get the chassis weight down and low.

Yea, agreed. Stroker are lots more fun than M50's. M50's are meh. Strokers are YEA!!!

Seriously...would you rather have some boring ole' 24v m50? Or a rebuild, fresh, torquey M20??

M20 strokers all the way!! S50 though...that's a different story.

For the amount of money one would spend on an M50 swap (probably at least $1,500) you could rebuild an M20 and have a fresh newly built motor. Now, rebuilding an M20 to stock form IS pointless - but do a budget stroker in the process, and it's damn fun!

What crank does IE use for the 3.1 stroker?

That's how much I'd want to punch it out.

Not sure what IE kit uses, but there are a few options for cranks, with some minor modifications

                          Eta crank - 81mm throw
                          M50B28 crank - 84mm throw
                          S50 crank - 86mm throw <I THINK
                          S52 crank - 89.1mm throw <I THINK

They use the 3.2 M3 crank, but stock it will not drop right in because the ends are different.

MarkD Chip, Bav Auto CAI, GOOD heatshield of some sort, Exhaust.

All of you who think you're going to get a full rebuild for $1500 are dreaming, plan at LEAST twice that to build a good M20 with new parts. And at that price you might as well add some extra valves and variable cam timing. Boost is another story though, I would happily spend money on an M20 built for boost but for some reason I balk at spending it for an N/A motor.
