Oil cooling is good because the only way it is cooled without it is the little bit that runs to the head gets cooled before it runs back down to the sump. There is also some minute amount of heat shed in the aluminum sump. So the oil is relying on the coolant to indirectly cool it. Also, cooling the oil helps remove heat from the engine. What happens is it takes some of the heat exchange work the radiator needs to do. If the cooling system is working efficiently then there isn't much different going on internally. Most vehicles do not have external oil cooling. Cooler oil will last longer and lubricates better, but really the little 5 tube cooler isn't doing much. Pretty sure the system on our cars is a bypass system so only a portion of the oil pumped is running through the cooler and filter.

      I just read this... Damn-it.

      Really wish I hadn't.

If the M20B25 didn't need an oil cooler BMW wouldn't have put one in it...

      And before the "yeah but"....

The M20B25s didn't last long in the e34s (even though the software was different that operated it)

I just re-read the whole thread too.

Good fucking god, what a bunch of idiots.

One of the main reasons you can tell that BMW is serious about its engines is the fact that they had oil coolers.

Anyone running an eta hard should have one too. What the hell is wrong with you people?

well heres the part number if you want to do it. 11 11 2 140 435.

its cheaper than getting an oil cooler. I'm not tracking my car, so I really don't think anything detremental will happen to my car without the oil cooler. Yes engineers put the oil cooler on for a reason.. People also say BMW's are over engineered. I'm going for the cost effectiveness and breaking 2 oil coolers is not effective way to spend my money or wait for one to be shipped to me.

If the new BMW 335i doesn't need an oil cooler, then neither do you!

            Haha.

If you really want to de engineer your over-engineered BMW, this is the part # you want:
            11112140435
            http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...19&hg=11&fg=10

It allows you to remove your oil cooler thermostat/filter housing and just screw the filter directly onto the block like the ETAs. I'm sure you will notice no difference what-so-ever, except maybe slightly decreased engine lifespan.

BMW built a high performance small luxury car with the E30.

THEY thought it needed a cooler, why would you think otherwise?

                            Oh shit, there goes that.

I have like 200 stickers on my car so it goes from idle to 800HP in a second, plus I did a short shifter so my r3vs don't match anymore

Let's not forget that new BMW's are destined for failure..

(I know you were kidding, but I needed to add my input)

I cant express in words how stupid it is to want to remove the factory oil cooler. So I have nothing else to say here.
